Nicole in the city

Park City, Utah is a very unique place. This week me and my wife Nicole took my first, and her tenth, trip to said city for a day away from the kids. Our first stop was to the “outlet” mall. The reason I put quotations around the word outlet is because I, like many people, hear outlet and think of a place where its primary function is to quickly unload unsold inventory from other stores at drastically reduced prices. This was not the case for many, if not most, of the stores in the Park City “outlet” mall. Fortunately, great deals were not my main incentive for the trip; great company and great scenery were, and Park City had an abundance of both of them (thanks in part to my wife).  Downtown Park City is kind of scene I thought only existed inside a snow globe. Colorful, old fashioned shops and homes surrounded by  majestic mountains and all of it capped with snow. The perfect setting for a variety of lifestyle portraits.

For my equipment I kept things light. My trusty Canon 10D, a Canon 50mm f/1.8 lens, a Sigma 28mm-70mm f/2.8 lens and my Speedlite 580ex II attached via bracket and an OC-E3 Off Camera Shoe Cord. It was necessary to keep my equipment light as the sidewalks are fairly narrow and well populated. If I had an assistant, then a second flash unit and accompanying umbrella would have been doable, but this trip was also a mini get-a-way for my wife and I, so this wasn’t the case.
